Stoke Con Trent!

In this part of the module, we had to prepare for an online convention we put together with help from the teachers, as well as prepare for having spots in the in-person convention  that the 3rd years hold.

We looked into different ways it could work and the laouts of vr exhibitions as well as the websites of existing conventions that often focous on the map of the real site.

It was settled on that the con would be held in a game-like main site the visitors could walk around in and enter little booths or shops drawn by the students to see our shops, art, commission information and more.

I decided to plan to do a commission panel and talk about my process making The Bygone market as well as things I've done earlier in the year. I actually held a practice stream with a friend while drawing my final update of Bygone to test my stamina and also a potential layout involving a vtuber model I made myself, although I may go with my simpler overlay I have currently I'm considering making a more involved model of the persona I have for the con after deadlines finish.

Shop art

making the shop art was really fun, I played around and made both of them gifs and used colours I really enjoy to give it the personal touch. My main wish is that I'd made the shop more square to fir the dimensions better and that I'd figured out how to make my gifs transparent but hopefully conan was able tow rok with the white backgrounds

the caravan is a reference to all the camping and selling at car boot sales I did as a kid, it's like selling comics out of one of those bacon butty vans that are always on the edge of a market

Flavour text and links

we were each asked to write some text for our shops and link things like our social media, commission sheets, and any events we wanted to hold during the con, mine looked like this

Intro card:

Oh! How nice to see you here!
I’m Bryn Forrester
Don’t be shy! Take a look around, I promise most things in here won’t bite

Webcomic link: https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/the-bygone-market/list?title_no=613584

Ah a fan of stories I see,

in there you’ll find a tale of history, magic… and animal people

It’s a project I’m rather proud of!

Redbubble link: https://www.redbubble.com/people/TheWasteOfMind/shop?asc=u

Looking for some prints or clothing?

I happen to have rather an extensive collection in there

(My personal favorite is the worms on a string)

Social media linktree: https://linktr.ee/unicornclutter

If you’d like to keep up with or see more of my work

this is a pretty good place to look!

Website: https://f022408j.wixsite.com/brynforrester

Hmmm interesting, there you may find the trials of past,

It ought to be a good way for you to see what we cartoon and comic artists have been assigned in the first and second year

Stream link: https://www.twitch.tv/unicornclutter

Behind that door would be an educational stream,

If you’d like to join me to learn about everything we’ve worked on this year,

And to watch me draw some art requests then enter at any time between

XX:XX and YY:YY

*blows dust from the link*

Oh, this? Well, that would be my information on commissions,

it’s not been used in a while, but you still should be able to find reasonable art prices,

I draw character art, create clothing designs, scenes and more.

I actually had to make a brand new commission sheet as my old one was both made with very old art and had very low prices that weren't really what I was worth anymore

I also made art for my stream

Exhibition work!

The Degree show is something we didn't know we were going to be included in this year but nonetheless it was an interesting task to get. We were asked to submit a comic page from our webcomics and the cover to be hung on the wall at the show (if you want to see the full process on the comic making go to the webcomic portion of semester 2 for my full rundown) , as well as any extras we wanted. If I'd been there in person I would have liked to also print some business cards, and either paint my wall or paper it with one of the patterns I created around the webcomic. However, I did manage to ship a piece of merch over to the studio and ask if it could be put in some form of protective wrap and pinned to the wall as well so people could see my merch designs. I also edited and remastered the animation for our comic as an in-exhibition advert for them which involved editing some of the text and exporting it as a size more suited to a large screen.

Along with the work we need to provide some text to describe the project and a plan of how things will be laid out, I decided to represent the scrolling format of my comic by suggesting taking 3 images and stacking them on top of each other but it that's not possible I'm also planning to send one of the images where I took my comic and made it into a more traditional page. I also added the background I would have tried to paper or paint on if I'd been able to as well as some images of the buisness card I would have wanted to get printed.

according to the info conan gave us, we had about 120x213 cm of workspace so I made a mockup to that scale with the idea of the poster being more central and the comic going down the wall, keeping the prettiest bits near eye level

the tshirt I thought could be cool to have a little lower down

the red box is where I'd have liked to place a little shelf for cards and maybe even the print version fo the comic
the black box is where I think the little description might work best
